Out and about in the Aultbea area

Aultbea and the surrounding area generally enjoy a gentle climate,
benefiting from the Gulf Stream, and as a result there are numerous
outdoor activities to enjoy besides the obvious attractions of the natural safe golden sandy beaches.


The mountains of Stac Polly, An Teallach, Slioch, Ben Eighe and Torridon
are all visible from the hotel and within easy access for a day’s climb.

some of the magnificent scenery in the area of Aultbea The 14 mile Great Wilderness Challenge via Fionn Loch also begins from the hotel. For cyclists there are plenty of quiet trails to follow and for the general sightseer the scenery speaks for itself!

Pony trekking is a popular activity with both young and old

  • Bird watching at Gruinard Island. The island is home to only pair of nesting Sea Eagles in the British Isles.
  • Golf – : 9 hole course with wonderful location adjacent to the gorgeous beach at Gairloch Sands. Stunning views across Gairloch Bay and The Minch. Open all year, no advance booking needed – walk on course. Trolleys and clubs available for hire in season. Ample car parking.

Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve
  • Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve – the first NNR to be built in Britain, located at the southeast end of Loch Maree near Kinlochewe. Trail walks. Flora and Fauna. Visitor Centre. Reserve Office tel: 01445 760254

  • Poolewe – small indoor swimming pool
 Other places of interest to visit include:
  • The famous – sub tropical gardens and visitor centre. Drumchork is the first hotel North of the gardens.
  • , North Road, Ullapool and also at Lochinver. Hand Modelling, Throwing and Decorating – visitors are welcome to watch craftspeople at work in both potteries. Shops available for direct purchase.
Inverewe Gardens, which are run by the National Trust.  These magnificent gardens are highly recommended as a visitor attraction in this part of the Highlands and easily reached from Aultbea
